God Hears Our Prayers

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.   1 John 5:14-15 Every prayer I have ever uttered …

Why the Grieving Should Go to Church-Even When It Hurts

Unbelievers, new believers, and the angels themselves need to see us worship God during the tough times, not as a testimony of our "strength", but as a testimony of God’s goodness and majesty.

What Are YOU Afraid Of?

I am not ashamed to admit I am afraid of bears. To me, this is perfectly rational and after more than thirty-four years in Alaska I still can not get used to the idea of not being at the top of the food chain. So when I am fearful or anxious about something or concerned about someone, I sometimes end up dreaming about bears. To me, bears are the embodiment of all things terrifying.

After The Frost – Streams in the Desert 09/25

Why go I mourning” Psalm 42:9 Canst thou answer this, believer? Canst thou find any reason why thou art so often mourning instead of rejoicing? Why yield to gloomy anticipations? Who told thee that the night would never end in day? Who told thee that the winter of thy discontent would proceed from frost to …

Who Do You Trust?

By definition, God is good and God is love.  Therefore, everything He does is good.  I trust Him on that basis.  I do not trust that He will do what I want or that He will spare me pain.  I trust HIM because He is wise and He loves me.

Precious in the Sight of the Lord

As death overcomes the body and the believer passes into life eternal, in the last moments of grace, is the still small voice of the Lord the last and clearest thing a child of God hears on earth? Is our spiritual receptivity at its peak at this very moment?

Not Sure: What if My Departed Child is Lost?

Our children are in the hands of a righteous judge. If we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we will be overjoyed with whatever we find when we finally enter eternity. We will see things with God’s eyes. We will understand His purposes. We will be in perfect agreement with his sovereign will. There will be no sorrow, no tears, no grieving. We will say, yes, Lord, I see it now. We will praise Him for His righteous wisdom and lovingkindness. We will have peace.

The Keys of Death are in the Savior’s Hands

The power of death being in the hands of the Redeemer — the duration of human life is, in every instance, determined by Him.

Joy and Sorrow United

Joined in God – Streams in the Desert 8/19 “As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing”2 Cor. 6:10 When Sorrow sang, her notes were like the low sweet call of the nightingale, and in her eyes was the unexpectant gaze of one who has ceased to look for coming gladness.  She could weep in tender sympathy with …

The Wind Bloweth

As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

My Pleasant Infant

Our best wisdom will be--to hold a loose grip on every comfort which can perish, and to fasten our grip on eternal things. The more we have our hearts in heaven--the less will the troubles of time distress us.

Defeating Doubt

Joni Eareckson Tada on . . . What to Do When You Doubt God's Goodness … when doubts started to choke out my confidence in God, I quickly turned it around and reaffirmed my belief in His sovereignty… I have to start talking to myself… I have to remember His power and wisdom and goodness …

New Friends

His expression said, “Don’t worry, I’m fine.  I can’t go home with you.  This is important.”  He smiled a happy and reassuring smile, waved, and then turned back to the conversation.  He had no desire to leave this group of men and I sensed he knew I understood that he was exactly where he was supposed to be.
