Letter To A Friend

Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.  Romans 12:15 One of the things that ministered to me the most after Hans left us, was the genuine sorrow people shared with us.  It is a sweet joy when folks are brave enough to let me know Hans mattered to them, too.  …

From ‘A Happy Christian’ – C.H. Spurgeon

"Let us make glad our times of trial with holy rejoicing. Let us rejoice in the Lord always, and shout for joy, and so may His blessed Spirit help us to live to His glory."

Something Better

A Hard Lesson... Sorrowful, Yet Rejoicing | Streams in the Desert The stoic scorns to shed a tear; the Christian is not forbidden to weep. The soul may be dumb with excessive grief, as the shearer’s scissors pass over the quivering flesh; or, when the heart is on the point of breaking beneath the meeting …

Forgetting

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Isaiah 49:15-16 There are things about Hans I will never forget for as long as …

The Just Shall Live by Faith – Streams in the Desert 03/10

"Keep your eye steadily fixed on the infinite grandeur of Christ’s finished work and righteousness. Look to Jesus and believe, look to Jesus and live! Nay, more; as you look to him, hoist your sails and buffet manfully the sea of life. Do not remain in the haven of distrust, or sleeping on your shadows …

A Different Kind of Love

"Our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering. The love of God is of a different nature altogether. It does not hate tragedy. It never denies reality. It stands in the very teeth of suffering. The love of God did not protect His …

The Death of Children | George Mylne, 1871

Visit not the tomb for mournful musings. If you can do it in joyful expectation of the coming day-the day of days-the resurrection morn, when earth shall render up the righteous dead to meet their Lord, then you may go with profit to the tomb-not otherwise.

God’s Promise For February 20

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

God’s Promise For February 13

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. What If?

To have anything near a sense of peace regarding the question of What if? we must let go of the hypothetical. There is no end to the alternate scenarios we can imagine on a sleepless night. Instead of trying to orchestrate a replacement reality, one where everything turns out alright, we must submit to not having the answers we seek. We must rest in the fact that we will understand it all when we see the Lord. We must let it go.

Love Photographs Them in the Heart!

We can only see one side of a Christian's death — the setting side, the expiring breath, the vanishing life, the cold clay corpse.  We cannot see the risings on the other side — the angel convoy, Heaven's open gate, the Savior's welcome of the enraptured departed one. Yet it is none the less real.

‘Angry at God’ by Joni Eareckson Tada

"Finally, when tempted to be angry at God, you don’t need to settle for being a cold stoic or hot-headed blasphemer.  God has opened the door for you to lament, to bring to Him your doubts and questions, wisely, honestly, and in humility.  He bends His ear to His suffering people – and He’s waiting to hear from you today." -Joni Eareckson Tada
