What is a Woman?

A brief (but not exhaustive) portrait of Biblical womanhood

A woman is a person created in the image of God.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27

She is strong, joyful, wise, and kind.

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Proverbs 31:25-26

She is faithful.

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2 Timothy 1:5

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:11

She is a suitable helper for her husband.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Genesis 2:18

Her behavior is honorable. She teaches good things and cares for her home.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5

She is busy serving and caring for others. She fears the Lord alone.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:27-30

My Prayer

Lord help me to be the woman you created me to be.
