A Different Kind of Love

"Our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering. The love of God is of a different nature altogether. It does not hate tragedy. It never denies reality. It stands in the very teeth of suffering. The love of God did not protect His …

What If?

To have anything near a sense of peace regarding the question of What if? we must let go of the hypothetical. There is no end to the alternate scenarios we can imagine on a sleepless night. Instead of trying to orchestrate a replacement reality, one where everything turns out alright, we must submit to not having the answers we seek. We must rest in the fact that we will understand it all when we see the Lord. We must let it go.

‘Angry at God’ by Joni Eareckson Tada

"Finally, when tempted to be angry at God, you don’t need to settle for being a cold stoic or hot-headed blasphemer.  God has opened the door for you to lament, to bring to Him your doubts and questions, wisely, honestly, and in humility.  He bends His ear to His suffering people – and He’s waiting to hear from you today." -Joni Eareckson Tada

Job’s Wife

With the help of the Adversary, it is easy to focus on our suffering instead of remembering who this God is that we have been praising all the days of our abundance. Job (and hopefully his wife) recognized this and found peace.

Accident or Appointment?

“No, God does not do evil.  God is good.  But he does direct events here on earth and allows sinful man a lot of freedom to prove his utter hopelessness apart from the Almighty. And sometimes that gets pretty ugly.”

The Altar: Reflections on Psalm 84

I quietly went to our bedroom, closing the door behind me.  And by the bedside, I prayed and calmly lay my son on the altar.  I did not like doing it.  I cannot say my heart was in it. But I did it.  I was not a cheerful giver, but neither did I give him …
